    SDMHCA Prepares for Award Banquet!

    By Heidi Evers, President

Christmas is gone but this is traditionally a time of year for giving! I wanted to focus this newsletter article on the gifts we share as fellow counselors! The gift of listening to others in need, the gift of responding when others are in crisis, the gifts of compassion, caring and life we bring to our clients.

There are so many excellent counselors out there! SDMHCA offers one award each year to acknowledge a special counselor for the gifts they share every day. I invite you to think of a person who meets the following criteria, and nominate them for the Howard Smith Award. You can do this by simply sending a letter of nomination. A resume of the person you are nominating would be helpful as well, so that they might be properly acknowledged for their career efforts.

As you are thinking of nominations, please limit your thoughts to counselors fitting these criteria:

    - 10 years in the counseling field
    - A member of both SDCA and SDMHCA
    - The individual should practice according to their Code of Ethics
    - The individual should have involvement in their community
    - The individual should be respected by other professionals as well as their clients
    - The individual should not have received the award previously

Thanks for your thoughts and we appreciate your nominations!

Send nominations by February 15, 2006 to:
