What's your New Years' Resolution?
By Bonnie Werpy Rye
SDMHCA - President
As I sit down to write this, I think of all the people in the world making their New Years' Resolutions. If we are like most people, we start out with a lot of energy and determination but falter along the way. I hope that we all step back and look at the wonderful things in our life and make a resolution to be the best that we can be.
The New Year starts with a looking for nominations for the SDMHCA – Howard Smith Award and the SDCA Awards. April Anderson SDMHCA– President-Elect will be handling this for SDMHCA. Nominations can also be made through your local chapters. Please consider nominating individuals for these awards. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 605.882.7076 or email me at werpyrye@wat.midco.net.
How about resolving to get more involved with the legislative issues? You can join us for the "Day on the Hill" February 2nd, 2007@ 8:00AM. If you would like to attend this event please RSVP to Kelly Duncan 605.232.6285. $25 expense reimbursements available to current members who sign up to attend!
The Private practice workshop you have been looking for is coming in 2007. Our speaker was unable to do the workshop last fall due to medical issues. We will be looking at times that will work this spring. Watch for details! The following as an example of questions people may have about getting into a private practice written by J .Scott Hinkle, PhD, NCC.
"Should I consider private practice as a part-time activity?"
Whether deliberately planned or a matter of circumstance, part-time or limited practice is a common approach for the new counseling professional. Many counselors maintain an agency job while developing a client base and learning the nuances of managing a private practice business.
I look forward to seeing many of you in 2007 at the "Day on the Hill", the SDCA annual conference and pre-conference and private practice workshops. I hope you have a very happy and prosperous New Year!!
