By Amber Stern
SDCA member, Kelly Duncan, has been elected to represent the Midwest Region of the American Counseling Association on the ACA Governing Council. Duncan will begin her term July 1, 2007 and serve until June 30, 2010.
Duncan was nominated at the 2006 Midwest Region Business Meeting and ran against Ed Coyle of Wisconsin. All ACA members within the Midwest Region were able to vote in the election.
The American Counseling Association is made up of four regions. South Dakota is one of 13 states within the Midwest Region.
The Governing Council is the national governing body of the American Counseling Association, providing long-range strategic leadership. Composed of nationally elected ACA officers, including the president, president-elect, and immediate past president, an appointed treasurer, and one representative from each division and region, the Governing Council meets at least twice a year. The association's executive director and treasurer serve as ex-officio members. Terms of office for Governing Council representatives are limited to three years.
