AMHCA Conference in OUR REGION this YEAR!

    By Heidi Evers,
    SDMHCA President

Many of you may wonder, what is AMHCA? Well, it is our parent organization- the American Mental Health Counselors Association. I hope that many of you have made the choice to join this organization! It really is beneficial and has much to offer mental health professionals. This year, we are lucky enough to have the annual conference in our region (known as the MIDWEST Region). It is in St. Louis, MO with the theme: Gateway to Healing: Keys for Recovery. As always, there is a leadership training prior to the conference- this is always EXCELLENT for all of you interested in getting involved! The conference runs July 20-22. The Leadership training begins Tuesday, July 18 with a President's Reception at 6PM and runs all day Wednesday and closes at noon on Thurs. July 20.

I am aware of one member who is interested in getting a "caravan" to go to St. Louis. It appears if members would room three to a room, the conference could be cost around $300/person including hotel costs, etc. If interested, please contact me at 605-690-4755 and I will take names and information. It would be great to have a large group of talented counselors from South Dakota attend this year!

The keynote this year will be given by former US Surgeon General, Dr. David Satcher. For more detailed information about the conference, please go to www.amhca.org. If you register before May 15 it is less expensive, so sign up soon!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for reading this year! I have enjoyed my contacts and getting to know some of you (hopefully I can continue to meet more of you) this year as President of SDMHCA. I do believe we truly have a strong group of talented counselors in our state! Thanks for all the work you do and the honor of being your President this year! If you have any needs, please feel free to contact me! Please welcome Bonnie Werpy-Rye as your new President as of July 1, 2006. She will truly be a great leader and has some great things planned already!
