    Cultivating a Better Tomorrow

    By Deb Langrehr,
    SDCA President-Elect

I feel that we as counselors at the 47th SDCA Conference got the "beat" to get "hooked on counseling". What a great conference! It was wonderful to see old friends and make new ones.

I hope that all of you will keep doing the "beat" of being "hooked on counseling", because then you are "cultivating a better tomorrow." My theme for this coming year is "cultivating a better tomorrow". We need to nurture ourselves and then go out and cultivate our clients/students so that they can handle everyday with the tools that we give to them. It will not happen overnight, but we as professionals must remember not to give up on them, but keep trying each time we see them to help them grow to handle their situations in a better light.

Please, the SDCA Board is your board, we are the voice from you, if you have any questions or thoughts, please direct them to us and we will bring it to the summer board retreat and work on your concerns. My email is deb.langrehr@k12.sd.us or 605-543-5500 (w) or 605-446-3538.

The Summer Board retreat for SDCA Board and committee chairs is August 7-8, 2006. We start at noon on the 7th and finish up noon on the 8th. You may start arriving at 11 am on the 7th. Our retreat is at Broom Tree, Irene, SD. The website is www.broom-tree.org. This is a very helpful site. It gives you directions on how to get there and tells the story about Broom Tree. I am very excited about getting started on our agendas. I will get more information out to SDCA Board and Committee Chairs later.

Everybody have a wonderful, safe and nurturing summer. See you in the fall. Remember, please email me or call so we can "cultivate a better tomorrow" for ourselves and your organization (SDCA)

    Uniquely,
    Deb Langrehr
