Registration is now open for the ACA 2006 Legislative Institute, which will be held in Alexandria, Virginia, Sunday, February 26 -- Tuesday, February 28, 2006. The 3-day, intensive learning workshop -- offered exclusively to ACA members -- will demystify the policymaking process, and prepare you to become an advocate at the state and federal level. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit the Capitol, meet with Congressional staff, hear from several experts, and lobby their members of Congress. Institute attendees will earn 10.5 continuing education credits, and will have a rare chance to work closely with concerned, active counseling leaders from across the country.
SDCA will sponsor one member to attend this training. In return, that member must commit to spending 3 years as a member of the SDCA Government Relations Committee. (Begin term July 1, 2006 and serve through June 30, 2009).
SDCA shares ACA’s belief that it is vitally important that counselors become involved in the policymaking process, and we have designed the Legislative Institute to continue to grow the ranks of counselor-advocates active at the state and federal level. The Institute is also designed to be of interest to both those who know virtually nothing about Congress and the policymaking process, as well as who are already experienced in this area.
