PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
By Marcia Price, SDCA President
In line with the theme for 2006 SDCA Conference “Hooked on Helping” I asked you to think about what drew you to this profession. In my case it seemed a natural fit. For as long as I can remember I was put into a role of helping others. In Junior High and High School I was one of the kids that others confided in. In my first career as a Home Economics (FACS) instructor it seemed I was doing as much counseling as I was teaching lessons on cooking and sewing. My Superintendent suggested to me that I go back to school and get a counseling degree. So here I am! And it feels right! Think about your helping successes and the about the difference you have made in a clients life.
As we continue to plan for the year we want to meet the needs of our members. But to do this we need to hear from you. Technology offers each of us ample opportunity to let our leaders know what we need for our profession. For example several counselors have requested workshops dealing with ethics. Kelly has worked to meet these requests. Ethic workshops will be happening. We want to know about this new newsletter format----what is good about it and what needs to be changed.
Several requests for Call for Program have been sent to members. We need each of you consider presenting at conference. As I visit with counselors from around the state I hear of wonderful things happening in your offices with your clients and in your schools. Share your expertise!
Remember that any association is only as good as its members demand it to be! Tell us what you need to become even better professional counselors!
On a personal note Spearfish Canyon has been absolutely beautiful! In an effort to be a better helper I have taken time to enjoy nature and to take care of myself. Are you taking care of yourself?
