Palace-Pheasant Chapter 2007-08
Margie Neugebauer, President
Palace-Pheasant Chapter is coming alive again! Our SDCA president is from the Palace-Pheasant Chapter and we are gearing up to be a support and encouragement to her and a source of support to our members.
The end of May we had a social supper at Fish Lake Golf Course. We had 3 members attend and had a discussion on possible activities for this year. In June I hosted an ice cream social in Chamberlain with 7 counselors attending. We had some new members join so by the July SDCA Board Retreat our chapter was in compliance. We still need new members for 2008; so please join and show your professional colors.
Since our chapter covers a wide expanse of area (Mitchell to Huron to Chamberlain to Platte and surrounding areas), we are discussing have 3 centers of activities; Platte, Chamberlain, and Mitchell.
Possible activities are;
* touring Aurora Plains Academy in Plankinton;
* hosting a meeting where school counselors can meet and hear about the expertise that private or agency counselors have, such as Dakota Counseling Institute, Lutheran Social Services, Catholic Family Services, Hope Psychological Services, and Mueller Associates;
* learning about the counselor licensure practice law and the grandfathering clause included therein.
Our officers include; Margie Neugebauer, president, Chamberlain, Karen Bertsch, secretary, Mount Vernon, and Sadie Hanson, treasurer, Platte. Delaine Branum, Parkston, is past president.
Please check the Chapter section on the SDCA webpage for updates.
As to a best practice to share-several years ago our local Chamberlain counselors made arrangements with the local county paper to have a counseling article published as a public service at least once a month. Kelli Stofferahn-Muck handled this for us. She downloaded an article from the ACA webpage, edited it, and submitted it to the local paper. We referenced the article as originating from ACA being sponsored by local SDCA members. It gave us recognition and provided important and timely information to the public.
We need your input and involvement. Please become involved in your professional organization and support your fellow professional counselors and yourself. Please call any of the officers with comments and concerns. For all the school counselors-have a great year!
