> Licensure and Certification
Counselors often take the National Counselor Examination at the end of their Master's training to hold the National Counselor Certification. Each state is responsible for licensure than as a professional counselor. The SD Board of Counselor Examiners is responsible for setting and enforcing counselor licensure. Their website is linked to the left. Counselors must take continuing education credits yearly to maintain their certifications and licenses.
