PRACTICE LAW SIGNED INTO EFFECT BY
GOVERNOR M. MICHAEL ROUNDS
HB 1056, the practice law bill, was signed into law by Governor M. Michael Rounds. The law will go into effect July 1, 2007.
This is a great move forward for South Dakota and the profession of counseling. We would like to thank the Board of Counselor Examiners (BCE) and all who worked on the bill for their efforts. The BCE put in countless hours in preparing the bill and testifying at the legislature.
A big thank you to all the SDCA members who sent emails and talked with their legislature personally. It took over three years of effort throughout the year and a great showing at the Day on the Hill to move this forward. Please celebrate this major step. We can see the light at the end of this tunnel. This will go far in helping to protect the consumers in South Dakota and the reputation of professional counselors.
