PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
By Marcia Price
Welcome to SDCA 2005-06! As President of SDCA I have selected the theme of "Hooked On Helping" for this year's conference. As I thought of all the dedicated professional counselors that make up SDCA membership, I wondered "what is it that has drawn these individuals into the profession of counseling or helping?" It is a very challenging yet rewarding profession. As the year progresses I ask each of you to ponder the question of what drew you to this profession. More to follow each month on this "Hooked on Helping" theme.
SDCA has much to offer to its members this year, as it does every year. The crowning event of course is the Spring Conference in Pierre on April 20-22. But there is more to be gained from your membership. Monthly electronic newsletters will replace the quarterly newsletters that were often too lengthy. This format should be more user friendly. Government Relations is working diligently with the Legislature to protect our profession. Public Relations Committee is working on activities to help educate the public about counseling. And then of course there are opportunities throughout the year to receive training on current topics and issues. All of these benefits are available to you and I hope that you will take advantage of these opportunities.
I am Marcia Price, School Counselor. I am beginning a new job with Spearfish High School after serving Mobridge School District for 15 years. I am living "change" to the maximum this year-----new job, new community, and a new/old relationship. Please feel free to contact me regarding ideas or concerns for SDCA and our profession.
