    SDCA’s Government Relations Committee is busy looking at potential legislative issues for the coming year. Work with the SD Dept. of Education on the stipend for those pursuing National School Counselor Certification and work with the SD Board of Counselor Examiners on a Counseling Practice Law are hot issues. Check out the Legislative News page for more information on the committee’s work along with information on ACA’s support of Anti-Bullying Legislation at the national level.

    As a branch of the American Counseling Association, the South Dakota Counseling Association is proud to announce the availability of Professional Liability Insurance . Check out how you can find out more about this insurance protection designed specifically for counselors.

    SDCA’s Spring Conference is always the highlight of the year! Why not share some of your expertise with your fellow professionals? Submissions for content session programs are being sought by the SDCA Education Committee for presentation at the Spring Conference to be held in Pierre April 20-22, 2006. Click on the Call for Programs form and send your submission by the Oct. 15 deadline.

    Advocacy for the profession and for our own positions is extremely important. Check out the information contained in Promoting the Profession for an update from the SDCA Public Relations Committee and some tips for writing news stories for your local paper.

    SDCA will host its 47th Annual Spring Conference April 20-22 at the Ramkota Inn of Pierre. SDCA President Marcia Price has chosen as her theme HOOKED ON HELPING. Two Preconference Workshops have been planned. The Conference Registration Form is also available. Check out the SDCA website as additional updates on the conference become available.

    A BUSY SUMMER FOR SCHOOL COUNSELORS! South Dakota school counselors had multiple opportunities to learn and grow this summer. It started with the “Summer Van Tour to Starr Academy” June 7th and 8th.
