SDMHCA is dedicated to the professional development of mental health counselors in the state of South Dakota and the welfare of the clients they serve.
The South Dakota Mental Health Counselors' Association is a division of the South Dakota Counselors Association (SDCA). http://www.sdcounseling.org/
SDCA is a branch of the American Counseling Association http://www.counseling.org/
1. Improves mental health counselors place in the existing health care market and promotes parity with other mental health care providers. 2. Increases the public's awareness of mental health counselors and the counseling profession. 3. Involvement in the legislation affecting Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC and LPC-MH). 4. Supports a monitor who informs the association of legislation issues for professional counselors. 5. Monitors and advocates rule promulgation with the SD Board of Counselor Examiners. 6. Promotes the systematic exchange of information for mental health counselors. 7. Provides continuing education for mental health counselors. 8. Offers mental health counselors the opportunity for professional networking and resources. 7. Leadership opportunities.
Membership in SDMHCA is encouraged to any person actively engaged in counseling, human development, mental health delivery, or guidance services. Licensed Professional Counselors, school counselors, counselor educators, counseling students, and others who are interested in the advancement of the counseling profession are welcome.
